Nigeria to Host First-Ever Hajj–Umrah Expo in West Africa, January 2026
By our Special Correspondent
Abuja, Nigeria — Nigeria is set to host the Hajj–Umrah Nigeria Expo 2026, a landmark international gathering aimed at transforming the country’s pilgrimage ecosystem and positioning Nigeria as a regional hub for faith-based tourism and pilgrimage management.
Scheduled to hold from 28 to 30 January 2026 at the National Mosque Conference Hall, Abuja, with a Gala and Awards Night at the Nicon Luxury Hotel, the Expo is being organized by the Global Business and Investment Partnerships Forum (GBIPF), Nigeria.
Themed “Pilgrimage • Partnership • Prosperity,” the Expo will convene government institutions, private-sector operators, international partners, investors, scholars, and pilgrims to address governance, service delivery, investment, and innovation across the Hajj and Umrah value chain.
According to the organizers, the event is the first comprehensive Hajj–Umrah-focused expo in Nigeria and West Africa, designed to improve pilgrim welfare, strengthen institutional coordination, attract investment, and deepen public–private collaboration within the sector.
A Strategic Platform for Pilgrimage Reform
The Expo’s vision is to position Nigeria as the leading West African hub for Hajj, Umrah, and faith-based tourism, supported by efficient systems, strong institutions, and inclusive private-sector participation.
Its objectives include improving pilgrim experience and safety, supporting policy and regulatory dialogue, promoting Shariah-compliant financial solutions, and unlocking economic opportunities in aviation, hospitality, healthcare, ICT, logistics, and tourism services.
The event is expected to play a strategic role in enhancing Nigeria’s religious diplomacy, strengthening bilateral relations—particularly with Saudi Arabia—and expanding foreign exchange inflows and employment opportunities across multiple sectors.
Conferences, Exhibitions, and Deal-Making
Key components of the Expo include a large-scale exhibition and trade fair featuring licensed Hajj and Umrah operators, airlines, hotels, banks, fintechs, insurers, healthcare providers, ICT firms, and logistics companies.
High-level conference sessions and panel discussions will focus on:
-
Strengthening Nigeria’s Hajj and Umrah governance framework
-
Public–private partnerships and long-term sector sustainability
-
Aviation, airlift, and pilgrimage logistics
-
Pilgrim healthcare, safety, and welfare management
-

-

The Expo will also host B2B, B2G, and international partnership meetings, including government-to-government engagements, investor matchmaking, and private-sector deal rooms.
Pilgrim Education and Public Engagement
In addition to industry-focused activities, the Expo will feature Pilgrims’ Education and Awareness Clinics, covering travel documentation, health and vaccination requirements, financial planning, consumer protection, and spiritual preparedness.
Gala Night to Celebrate Excellence
A Gala and Awards Night will recognize excellence and innovation within Nigeria’s Hajj and Umrah ecosystem. Indicative award categories include Outstanding Hajj and Umrah Operator, Excellence in Pilgrim Welfare, Best Airline Supporting Pilgrimage, Innovation in Pilgrimage Services, and Institutional and Policy Excellence.
Broad Participation Expected
Expected participants include federal and state MDAs, the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia, airlines, licensed tour operators, financial institutions, healthcare providers, ICT and logistics firms, religious leaders, and international delegations from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Turkey, Malaysia, Indonesia, and across West Africa.
Organizers project over 2,000 physical participants and a media and digital reach exceeding 10,000, underscoring the Expo’s growing national and international significance.
A Long-Term Legacy
The Hajj–Umrah Nigeria Expo 2026 is positioned not merely as an event, but as a strategic national platform aimed at reforming pilgrimage administration, improving pilgrim dignity and welfare, strengthening institutions, and unlocking shared prosperity through ethical finance and sustainable investment.
